Subtitles we translated with this tool

Public-domain NASA captions, translated in Chrome on a Mac mini on 4–5 November 2026. Nothing was edited by hand.

SRT → Spanish

Sample SRT · 4 cues · about 10 s incl. language pack
  1. Greetings from the International Space Station.
Saludos desde la Estación Espacial Internacional.
  2. Thanksgiving is typically a holiday where family and friends get together.
El Día de Acción de Gracias suele ser una fiesta en la que la familia y los amigos se reúnen.

Numbers and timestamps copied unchanged; the continuation cue keeps its lowercase start (“a todos nuestros amigos…”).

SRT → Japanese

Same file · 4 cues · second run, no download
  1. Greetings from the International Space Station.
    国際宇宙ステーションからのご挨拶。
  2. to all our friends and family who are down on Earth.
    地球にいるすべての友人や家族へ。

CJK lines stay on one line instead of being rewrapped at a space.

ASS fansub → bilingual Spanish

Aegisub file · styles, {\an8} and {\i1} tags
  1. {\an8}International Space Station — Expedition 70
    {\an8}International Space Station — Expedition 70\NEstación Espacial Internacional — Expedición 70
  2. to wish you happy holidays and share these holiday messages with you.
para desearles unas felices fiestas y compartir estos mensajes de vacaciones con usted.

Script info, styles, speaker names and margins came back unchanged; only the dialogue text changed. A VTT lesson file also went through a ChatGPT copy-paste round trip, every numbered line matched back to its timing.

To translate an SRT file, drop it in the tool above and pick a language: ScribeCue translates every subtitle line on your device and gives you back an SRT with the same numbering and timestamps, ready to load into YouTube, VLC or your editor. It's free with no sign-up, the file is never uploaded, and it also handles VTT, SBV and ASS — or makes bilingual subtitles with the original and the translation together.

How the translation works

  • The translation runs on your device with the translator built into Chrome and Edge on Windows, Mac and Linux. The first time you translate a language pair, the browser downloads a language pack once; after that it works offline.
  • Only the words are translated. Numbering, timestamps, cue settings, ASS styles and position tags such as {\an8} are copied from your file unchanged, so the result lines up with the video exactly like the original.
  • Two-line cues stay two lines when the translation is long; repeated lines are translated once and reused.
  • On Safari, Firefox or a phone, copy the numbered lines into ChatGPT, DeepL or Google Translate and paste the answer back — the tool rebuilds the file with the original timing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I translate an SRT file for free?

Drop the SRT in the tool above, choose the language to translate into and press Translate. Download the translated SRT — free, no sign-up, and the timestamps are unchanged.

Is my subtitle file uploaded?

No. The translation runs on your device with the translator built into Chrome and Edge, so the file never leaves your computer.

Will the timing stay in sync with the video?

Yes. Only the words change; numbering and every timestamp are copied from your file.

Can I make dual-language subtitles?

Yes — tick Bilingual and each cue shows the original line with the translation underneath, in the same SRT.

Which browsers work?

Chrome and Edge on a computer translate directly. On Safari, Firefox or a phone, copy the numbered lines into any translator such as ChatGPT or DeepL and paste the answer back; the tool rebuilds the SRT.

How many languages can I translate into?

33 languages including Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic and Hindi. One language per run is free; several at once in one ZIP comes with Pro or any pack.
