When ScribeCue is the better fit

  • You want the transcript itself — to read, search, quote or download — without creating an account.
  • You need subtitle files (SRT or VTT) with YouTube's timing.
  • You need a transcript of a video without captions: upload it and we transcribe the audio with speaker labels (how YouTube video transcription works).
  • You work with TikTok as well as YouTube.
  • You want chapters to paste back into a YouTube description.

When NoteGPT is the better fit

NoteGPT is a study workspace. If you want mind maps, flashcards and notes across videos, PDFs and web pages in one library, it does more than ScribeCue — we focus on transcripts, translation and summaries.

How we tested

On 18 October 2026, signed out, on desktop Chrome: the same 15-minute talk with creator captions, a 2-hour podcast with automatic captions and a music video without captions. We recorded what each tool lets you do before a sign-up wall or payment screen. We built ScribeCue, so the method is written out here and every claim can be checked.

Before and after: raw captions vs. ScribeCue

YouTube stores captions as short timed fragments, a few words each. Copied straight out of the Show transcript panel, that is what you get. ScribeCue joins the fragments into sentences and paragraphs, keeps one timestamp per paragraph and leaves every word as published. Three real examples, same seconds of each video:

Switch timestamps off and the same text copies as clean prose; switch them on, or download SRT, and every original line keeps its exact timing.
